This website is an educational tool to inform people about the reasons for supporting
gay marriage. Most people think that this is a moral issue; their reasoning behind protesting gay marriage is due largely
to ethical and religious beliefs that homosexuality is a sin. While religion plays an important role in many people's lives,
the issue of gay marriage includes much more than religious beliefs.
This website is not designed to change religious views, but to show that with
gay marriage not being legal, there is so much that gays and lesbians are missing out on. The benefits of marriage include
not only the highest summation of a relationship, but also many legal and financial benifits. These benefits include
-certain tax breaks
-social security in the event of the death of a spouse
-social recognition of the relationship, among many others.
Whether you are morally for or against gay marriage, there are many aspects of
life that gays and lesbians are missing because they are not permitted to legally marry. It is unfortunate in today's society
that we cannot accept gay marriage for what it is: the union of two loving people.
"Each individual's journey through life is unique. Some will make this journey
alone, others in loving relationships - maybe in marriage or other forms of commitment. We need to ponder our own choices
and try to understand the choices of others. Love has many shapes and colors and is not finite. It can not be measured or
defined in terms of sexual orientation." From the Statement of Affirmation and Reconciliation by the Quaker meeting in Aotearoa
